God of Miracles

Since the theme of the week has largely been God's wrath, I think I'll just leave a quick post on God's miracles.  In Chile today, all 33 of the miners who were trapped a half-mile underground were pulled up to safety.  Objectively, there was no observable miracle.  It was all done by human hands.  However, anyone willing to blame God for tsunamis, tornadoes, or genocides, must also entertain the notion that he can work miracles just as directly, or in this case indirectly.  And while any agnostic or atheist may howl at my irrational actions, I am happy to admit that in my mind I said a little prayer of thanks when I heard that news today.  Whether God really had a hand in it or not, it is undeniable that millions, if not billions of prayers were answered today.  Were they answered merely by good luck and the ingenuity of humankind?  Perhaps, but I don't think so.

  1. This blog has turned into Star Trek V.

The "let's figure out God via science" approach gets you to the possibility - even likelihood - that God exists, in some form. The rest can only come through faith. What is faith? Hmm, next topic Ryno?

I think it's a miracle our family debates so much ;)

  2. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! My blog is the crappiest Star Trek EVER? Oh that hurts! I don't even merit a Star Trek: The Motion Picture? I'd even take Star Trek: Insurrection. But Star Trek V? I'm gonna sulk all day.

  3. I think it's more Star Trek VI, The Undiscovered Country. This blog thing is taking us all into some strange territory.

    Alien religion, anyone?

    Hopefully no prison time, though.

  6. Ummm, doofuses ... the plot of Star Trek V revolves around a misguided search for God. Star Trek VI is a space opera take on the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Which one applies here? [Insert exasperated valley girl impression here]

  7. Hopefully the one that applies is the one that ISN'T a miserable failure - lacking in either intellectual or entertainment value.

  8. The analogy peters-out long before then. A dig is only a dig.

  9. "the plot of Star Trek V revolves around a misguided search for God."

And if some day God ends up shooting energy beams out of his eyes at Ryno... then three cheers for God!

    I'm kidding!

It would be one half-hearted cheer at most.
