Whether you like video games or not, this is just geek nirvana. Watch it!
Makes ya wonder, why oh why hasn't Hollywood made a full-length Halo movie yet?
The actual game comes out on the 14th, and I will have precisely zero time to play it (although it's already paid for on pre-order). Rest assured, I will occasionally fondle the shrink wrap.

ReplyDeleteThe film was considered too expensive and too risky by the studios. Microsoft wanted a bigger piece of the pie than is typically paid to 3rd party IP holders. There's also the fact that the iconic character of Halo, the Master Chief, would have played a supporting rather than lead role because you can't see his face.
I think a Halo Movie would be epic but I also wish Lucas would finish the Star Wars series, I'm not going to get what I want.
ReplyDeleteHave you watched Red vs. Blue? It is pee your pants, milk out your nose funny! It is voiced over actual Halo game video.
"Footage is mostly from the multiplayer modes of Halo: Combat Evolved and its sequels, Halo 2 and Halo 3"

Mike: Being that "Dances with Wolves in Space - 3D" is the highest grossing movie ever, I would think the issue of a faceless main character is a small issue. Or, they could get heretical and just let the man take his helmet off on camera.
ReplyDeleteAs far as financing, Microsoft easily burns/loses more money every year supporting Windows Mobile and Zune media players than it would take to self-finance Halo. I demand action!
Nik: I LOVE Red Vs. Blue. I haven't kept up regularly with it since season 4. But I don't keep up with much of anything that's episodic anymore. I would have put a link to the RvB homepage, but some of the characters tend to be potty mouths (I'm lookin' at you Church), and a lot of my readers don't appreciate that. Ah well.
I only saw "Pocahontas In Space" once so my memory may be off, but I don't remember any of the main characters being masked, just animated.
ReplyDeleteBut I agree they would have to do something heretical like you say. The other issue with the Master Chief is that he has almost no personality to speak of. I think the most interesting character in the Halo universe is Dr. Halsey, who doesn't even appear in any of the games.
Now that I think about it, maybe it would work if Cortana were somehow given a more visible role.
No idea why Microsoft doesn't just fork out the money, unless they also are doubtful about it's profit potential. Judging from the way they cut corners developing the 360 it seems that being able to buy most countries hasn't prevented them from suffering a cheapskate mentality.
As for Darth Lucas, I think the best thing that could happen to the Star Wars franchise would be for him to die and it be hopefully turned over to someone isn't just trying to milk it for every penny.

I might have to buy a 360 soonish because my son has one and most of my bros do, as well.
ReplyDeleteI also think this is a better post for you considering your level of business. Post cool links until your master lengthens the chain.
Yay for 360!! Halo Reach's campaign mode scales its difficult according to the number of people playing it cooperatively. Minus Robert, all the brothers could play.
ReplyDeleteAnd speaking of cool links. . . (check next post)
